The Tailor
“Threading needles, spreading rumors.”
Born in a humble village but raised by style, the Tailor turned a childhood bedsheet into a full-length ball gown at age seven, and he's been hand-stitching his legacy ever since.
To him, fashion isn't just fabric. It's form, function and flawless expression. Every hemline has a purpose; every button has a soul. He'll greet you with a warm smile and a complimentary tea, but if you show up in linen-on-linen without contrast… well, he will suggest a quiet moment of reflection.
Known across the kingdom for his sharp eye, sharp tongue and sharper lapel angles, he's the silent architect of every royal entrance. While others chase power, he tailors it, one perfectly steamed outfit at a time.
Four copies, four lines
There are four Tailor cards in the deck, and each one says something different.
- Threading needles, spreading rumors.
- Your secrets are safe with him… and all his clients.
- Says “no offense” right before going all out on offense.
- Very understanding – as long as you’re on the same page.
In the game: beats ranks 1–5, loses to 7–14 and the Crown. See card ranks.
The real medieval tailor
Clothes showed your rank, and kings wanted to keep it that way. Sumptuary laws said who could wear fur, silk or gold. In 1294 Philip IV of France went further and set how many new robes a year people of each rank were allowed to buy.
Tailors organised themselves into guilds. London's tailors got a royal charter in 1327, and their company still exists today as the Merchant Taylors. Our Tailor has never needed a law to tell someone they're underdressed.
More medieval jobs, and the world they live in: the world of Crown Shuffle.
